This question often comes up and sincerely, there's no straight answer. Everyone's needs are different, which is probably why there are so many options right now; Sherlock, Tag, lease protection, extended warranties, loan protections, paint protection, and the list goes on and on...
Consider this, next time someone adamantly tell you not to purchase any products because it's a scam, kindly ask your 'advisor' to help you pay for the damages and see what they say. Then you'll see if they put their money where their mouth is !
Often times we rely on other people to make the choices for us. We'll just regurgitate something without giving it much thought. So to say that all of the FNI products are a hoax is nonsense. The car sales profits are declining so the new focus is volume and finance manager products. Which is why you might notice the sales people talking about these products early in the sales process !
The best advice I can give you, is to listen to what they have to say and tell them you need the night to sleep on it. This, A) alleviates any sales pressure you might have and avoid making an impulsive decision, B) if the Sales person / Finance manager is a good one, they will respect you for it and C) you'll make a sounder decision by giving yourself that space.
